LONDON — A massive fire at a commercial waste facility near Wembley Stadium has sent a towering plume of black smoke billowing across the London skyline, triggering a major emergency response and widespread public transport disruptions.

The London Fire Brigade (LFB) dispatched 20 fire engines and approximately 125 firefighters to the scene on Hannah Close in Neasden, less than a mile from the iconic stadium complex. Fire crews arriving at the industrial estate found a large commercial unit—measuring roughly 100 meters by 150 meters—fully engulfed in flames at a mixed waste site. Residents across north-west London have been strongly advised to keep all windows and doors firmly closed and remain indoors where possible to avoid smoke inhalation.

Transport for London (TfL) completely suspended services along the entire Metropolitan Line and halted Jubilee Line trains between Willesden Green and Wembley Park. Rail services operating through London Marylebone also faced severe delays as emergency responders established safety perimeters near key track lines.

Specialist equipment—including four 32-meter turntable ladders, high-volume water pumps, hose-laying units, and aerial command drones—was deployed to assist ground crews battling the intense heat. The cause of the blaze has not yet been determined, and fire officials expect operations to continue through the evening to contain and fully extinguish the fire.
