The American financial system is rapidly shifting toward digital infrastructure. During the first quarter of 2025, U.S. banks recorded 148 net branch closures, while broader industry counts tracked more than 300 locations that were closed or marked for closure.
Major financial institutions continue to reduce certain physical locations as customers increasingly rely on mobile banking, digital payments and automated financial services. Although bank closures are not directly connected to Ripple or XRP, both developments reflect a much larger transformation taking place across the financial industry.
In July 2025, Ripple applied for a national trust bank charter with the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency. By December, the OCC had granted conditional approval for Ripple National Trust Bank—an important step toward placing Ripple’s stablecoin operations under federal supervision.
A central part of Ripple’s strategy is Ripple USD, or RLUSD, a dollar-backed stablecoin designed to maintain a value of one U.S. dollar. RLUSD is issued on the XRP Ledger, Ethereum and other supported networks. On XRPL, transactions generally settle within three to five seconds, while the standard minimum transaction cost is only 0.00001 XRP.
The digital shift is now extending far beyond banking. Banx Network is working to bring decentralized publishing, creator compensation and media rewards onto the XRP Ledger through BXE token.
Banx Network reports that its ecosystem has grown to more than 500 journalists, over 72,000 publications and approximately 250,000 active users. BXE is used to support author incentives and other media-related activity, creating a direct connection between content creation and blockchain-based payments.
With a reported total supply of approximately 490 million tokens, BXE is positioned as the primary utility token supporting Banx Network’s decentralized media ecosystem.
Together, these developments demonstrate how the XRP Ledger’s role is expanding. It is no longer being explored only for cross-border payments—it is also supporting stablecoins, tokenized assets, decentralized exchanges and an emerging blockchain-powered media economy.
