Horror in Malviya Nagar: 8 Members of Gurugram CA’s Family Perish in Tragic House Fire

NEW DELHI — A devastating inferno that tore through a hotel in South Delhi’s Malviya Nagar area has left a family from Sector 46, Gurugram, utterly shattered. Eight members across two generations perished in the massive blaze, which ultimately claimed a total of 21 lives.

The family had checked into the Flourish Stay B&B to be close to Max Hospital in Saket, where the elderly patriarch, Radheshayam Aggarwal, was undergoing treatment for a severe lung ailment. Tragically, what was meant to be a supportive family gathering during a medical crisis turned into an unimaginable catastrophe.

The blaze erupted around 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday morning, June 3, 2026 and rapidly engulfed the narrow, five-story building. Among the victims was 48-year-old Vivek Aggarwal, a chartered accountant serving as the CFO of a private insurtech firm, alongside his wife Tarjni, an NGO worker and beauty pageant title-holder.

Their two daughters also lost their lives: 20-year-old Jivisha (Angel), a BTech student who had flown in from Bengaluru just hours prior to visit her grandfather, and 16-year-old Varya (Pearl), who had recently excelled in her Class X examinations with a 97% score. Vivek’s 70-year-old mother, Premlata Aggarwal, also died in the fire, as did three extended family members—Ashok Aggarwal, Kamla Goel, and Jhumri Lal Goel—who had traveled from Rajasthan and were persuaded by the family to extend their stay.

In a heartbreaking detail, the only immediate survivor is the ailing patriarch, Radheshayam, who remains in the hospital, potentially unaware that almost his entire extended family has been wiped out.

Amid the smoke, Vivek Aggarwal managed a frantic phone call to a cousin, stating, "Brother, maybe we won't survive." Relatives advised him to cover his face with a wet handkerchief, but the smoke was too overwhelming. By the time help arrived, they had succumbed to the fumes.

The tragedy has sparked immense public anger, as a preliminary investigation exposed egregious fire safety and regulatory violations at the establishment. Officials revealed that the B&B was operating entirely without a fire NOC (No Objection Certificate).

Furthermore, the building was functioning drastically beyond its authorized capacity. While only licensed to run six rooms under local bed-and-breakfast guidelines, investigators discovered 25 operational rooms inside the property.

The Flourish Stay B&B quickly became a fatal trap due to its dangerous architectural layout. The building featured only a single, narrow entry and exit point, which was heavily, compromised by permanently sealed windows and a sensor-operated main door that likely failed and trapped occupants inside. Compounding the hazard, an unlicensed restaurant was operating on the ground floor while a locked security grill entirely blocked access to the basement.

Relatives and neighbors have vehemently questioned the location's safety infrastructure, pointing out that while the B&B was situated off a main road, actual access was restricted to an extremely narrow, congested alleyway. This tight spacing, combined with heavy overhead electric cables, severely hindered emergency vehicles, allegedly delaying the arrival of fire tenders and exacerbating the final death toll.

The fire department rescued 58 individuals from the building, but for 21 victims—including 12 foreign nationals staying near the medical hub—the rescue came too late. A full forensic investigation is underway to determine the exact spark that triggered the disaster.
