BAD OLDESLOE, Germany — A traumatic early-morning commute turned to terror in northern Germany when a school bus packed with children veered off course and slammed into a residential house, leaving at least 20 people injured.
The incident occurred at approximately 7:20 AM CET in the town of Bad Oldesloe, located in the northern state of Schleswig-Holstein. The bus was transporting students to nearby schools during peak morning traffic when the vehicle struck the exterior wall of a home, embedding itself in the structure. The violent collision left several passengers and the bus driver trapped inside the crumpled wreckage, prompting an immediate wide-scale emergency response.
First responders declared a "mass casualty incident" due to the high number of potential victims and the structural hazard posed by the damaged building. Numerous ambulances, fire engines, and medical personnel flooded the neighborhood to extricate trapped occupants and treat casualties.
At least 20 individuals, including multiple schoolchildren, sustained injuries in the crash. Medical teams confirmed that four victims suffered serious injuries and required immediate transport to regional hospitals, while 16 others were treated for minor injuries and shock.
Local authorities quickly cordoned off the crash site to secure the area and ensure structural stability before towing the wreckage. Police established a dedicated family support center nearby to assist distraught parents arriving at the scene and to provide psychological counselling to affected students. Investigating officers have launched an inquiry into the precise cause of the collision, exploring potential factors such as mechanical failure, road conditions, or a sudden medical emergency experienced by the driver.
The structure of the home sustained severe damage, with engineers arriving on site to assess whether the building remains habitable or faces the risk of collapse. As technical crews begin the delicate process of extracting the bus, local officials are coordinating temporary housing assistance for the residents displaced by the unexpected disaster.
