Hong Kong Sentences Tiananmen Vigil Organizers to More Than Seven Years in Prison

Three Hong Kong pro-democracy activists who organized annual vigils for victims of the 1989 Tiananmen Square crackdown have been sentenced under national security law. Lee Cheuk-yan received seven years, Chow Hang-tung seven years and three months, and Albert Ho five years and two months after pleading guilty. The Hong Kong Alliance was fined HK$1.5 million. Critics say the convictions further restrict freedom of expression, while authorities argue the group incited subversion by calling for an end to one-party rule
