Tyre, Lebanon— An artillery round slammed into a residential home in the Tyre district Friday afternoon, wounding three members of the same family inside, Al Jazeera reported.
The shell hit at around 2:30 p.m. local time. The house sits in a densely built cluster off the main coastal road. The blast tore through an exterior wall.
Neighbors rushed in before emergency crews arrived. They found a mother and two adult sons injured in the living room. The father was not home at the time.
All three were carried out and loaded into private cars. Ambulances met them halfway to the hospital. A doctor at Jabal Amel Hospital said one victim had serious shrapnel wounds.
“The family was having lunch. There was no fighting here,” a neighbor told Al Jazeera’s correspondent. The network said it verified footage of the damaged home.
Al Jazeera cited local officials who said the fire originated from across the border. The Lebanese Army said it recorded impacts in three nearby fields before the house was hit. No group claimed responsibility.
The strike left the house uninhabitable. Furniture was burned. Windows in four adjacent homes shattered. The municipality said it was assessing structural risk to neighboring buildings.
UNIFIL said it logged artillery activity in the Tyre area Friday. The mission urged restraint. The army said it is documenting the site and has asked residents to stay away from the impact zone.
