HONG KONG — A violent traffic collision on the North Lantau Highway left four people injured on Sunday morning after two private cars collided, causing one vehicle to flip onto its roof near Siu Ho Wan.
The incident occurred at approximately 7:03 AM on October 11, 2026, as both vehicles were traveling eastbound towards Hong Kong International Airport.
Police and emergency services received urgent calls following the crash, with initial reports suggesting occupants were trapped inside the crumpled machinery. Firefighters and paramedics rushed to the stretch near Siu Ho Wan. Upon arrival, rescue teams confirmed that all passengers and drivers had managed to free themselves or were rescued prior to being fully trapped.
A total of four individuals suffered varying degrees of injury in the impact. On-site medical personnel administered first aid before transporting the injured to nearby hospital facilities for further evaluation and treatment.
The force of the collision left vehicle debris scattered across the highway lanes, prompting traffic police to temporarily cordon off sections of the airport-bound route to allow for clear-up operations and initial site examinations.
Law enforcement officers from the Traffic Branch are reviewing dash cam footage and investigating the precise cause of the collision, focusing on vehicle speeds, lane-changing maneuvers, and road conditions at the time of the crash. Traffic flow along North Lantau Highway has since resumed following the removal of the wreckage.
The early-morning shutdown along the vital artery caused significant tailbacks stretching several kilometers back toward Tung Chung, briefly disrupting travel plans for weekend commuters and travelers heading to the airport. Transport Department officials issued real-time traffic alerts advising motorists to exercise caution and consider alternative routes while clearing crews worked alongside emergency services.
In light of the incident, highway safety advocates and local traffic authorities have reiterated calls for drivers to adhere strictly to speed limits and maintain safe trailing distances along high-speed corridors. Police confirmed that blood alcohol tests were administered to both drivers as part of standard investigative protocol as they work to determine whether mechanical failure or driver error contributed to the crash.
