Heavy rainfall at the turn of the week has cut off 16 gravel roads across Finland after flooding triggered widespread collapses. Finland’s Transport Infrastructure Agency said the damage was worst in Pirkanmaa and Central Finland, particularly the municipality of Multia, where three separate road collapses occurred. Multia recorded the country’s highest daily rainfall total of 114.2 millimetres. Transport officials described the scale as exceptional and said intense downpours and ageing drainage systems make collapses harder to fully prevent
