Heavy Casualties in Katsina: Security Forces Neutralize 40 Terrorists as 5 Hunters Fall in Battle

KATSINA, Nigeria — A fierce firefight erupted in Nigeria's northwestern Katsina State as a combined force of local security assets successfully repelled a large-scale assault. State authorities confirmed that over 40 heavily armed bandits were neutralized during the intense clash, though five brave local hunters tragically lost their lives defending the community.

The violence unfolded on Sunday evening, July 26, 2026 when an estimated 200 heavily armed terrorists descended on Guga Village, located in the Bakori Local Government Area. According to intelligence gathered by the Katsina State Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs, the assault was an orchestrated reprisal attack spearheaded by the notorious bandit kingpin Idi Abasu Aiki. Aiki’s faction was heavily reinforced by criminal fighters linked to the infamous Ado Aleru syndicate operating out of neighboring Zamfara State.

The heavily armed network targeted the village with the explicit strategic intent to dislodge the local hunters and operatives of the Katsina State Community Watch Corps (KSCWC). Intelligence reports indicate that after crushing the community's frontline defenders, the terrorists planned to sweep into the major commercial town of Bakori and surrounding villages.

The state's proactive intelligence network enabled joint forces—comprising local hunters, KSCWC personnel, and reinforcements from the Nigerian Army's 17 Brigade—to rapidly deploy and intercept the advancing terror cell.
