Hamas says it will dissolve its Gaza government upon new Palestinian body taking over

Hamas said Sunday it will dissolve its existing government in Gaza once a Palestinian technocratic leadership committee takes over the territory, as mandated under the U.S.-brokered peace plan. Hamas did not provide details on timing for when the transition would occur.

The group and the rival Palestinian Authority, the internationally recognized representative of the Palestinians, have not announced the names of the committee members. The technocrats are described as not politically affiliated, but it remains unclear whether they will be cleared by Israel and the United States.

Hamas said the “Board of Peace,” an international body led by U.S. President Donald Trump, is expected to oversee the new arrangement and other aspects of the ceasefire. That includes disarming Hamas and deploying an international security force, with other components related to Gaza’s reconstruction. The board’s membership has not yet been made public.

In the meantime, fighting and violence have continued alongside the ceasefire. Palestinian hospital officials reported that Israeli gunfire killed three Palestinians.

Separately, reports say Hamas is sending a delegation to talks in Egypt involving Qatari and Turkish officials about moving to the second phase of the agreement.

Hamas spokesperson Hazem Kassem, in comments posted to Telegram, called for speeding up the establishment of the technocratic committee. An Egyptian official, speaking on condition of anonymity to discuss closed-door information, said Hamas would meet with other Palestinian factions this week to finalize the committee’s formation, with top negotiator Khalil al-Hayya to chair the Hamas delegation.
