ABUJA, NIGERIA — Panic and outrage have once again gripped the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) following a daring late-night ambush in the outskirts of Abuja, where heavily armed men intercepted a family vehicle, abducting a woman and her two young children.

The incident occurred in the Kagini axis near the Bwari Area Council as the family was heading home. According to eyewitnesses and local security sources, the attackers emerged from nearby bushes and double-crossed the oncoming family vehicle. Operating with calculated speed, the gunmen forced the car to a halt at gunpoint. In a harrowing turn of events, the abductors ordered the husband out of the car, releasing him unharmed before speeding off with his wife, identified as Mrs. Attah Arome, and their two children.

A relative of the family, speaking under anonymity, confirmed that the kidnappers have since established contact with the traumatized family to demand a ransom. "They cut the car off without warning," the source revealed. "They spared the husband, but they dragged his wife and children away into the dark. They have already called demanding money, but the family is terrified and praying for their safe return."

This latest abduction adds to a disturbing trend of highway ambushes and residential invasions targeting communities surrounding Abuja's central district. Suburban districts like Bwari, Kagini, and Kubwa have increasingly become flashpoints for criminal gangs operating out of bordering forest corridors. The rise in such incidents has left residents feeling vulnerable and unsafe in their own neighborhoods.

Community leaders in the area expressed deep frustration over the persistent vulnerability of satellite towns. Residents have repeatedly called for permanent security checkpoints, increased police patrols, and better street lighting along major residential transit roads. The lack of effective security measures has made these areas attractive targets for kidnappers, further exacerbating the fear among the populace.

Efforts to reach the spokesperson for the FCT Police Command for an official update on rescue operations were unsuccessful at the time of reporting. However, local vigilante groups and joint security personnel are reported to have launched search-and-rescue operations in surrounding terrain in an effort to track the assailants and bring the victims back safely. The community remains hopeful that these efforts will yield positive results.

As fear lingers among suburban residents, community members continue to urge security agencies to step up intelligence gathering and crack down on kidnap-for-ransom networks threatening the stability of the capital. The ongoing insecurity has raised questions about the effectiveness of current law enforcement strategies and the need for a more robust response to protect citizens from such violent crimes.
