Iran expressed gratitude to India for attending the state funeral ceremonies of its late Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, according to a message posted by the Iranian Embassy in India on X.
In the post, the embassy thanked the Indian government and people—especially an official delegation—for taking part in the funeral ceremonies and paying tribute to Khamenei. It described the participation as a “powerful expression of mutual respect and sincere solidarity” during a period of national mourning.
The embassy said the attendance by Indian political leaders, Members of Parliament, scholars, intellectuals, and representatives from India’s diverse religious communities reflected the “deep historical, cultural and human bonds” between Iran and India. It added that the people of Iran would “never forget” the gesture of friendship, compassion, and heartfelt respect.
Reporting said Indian representatives—including Salman Khurshid, Mehbooba Mufti, and other officials and religious leaders—traveled to Tehran to take part in Khamenei’s funeral ceremonies.
