Scientists warn that every fraction of a degree will intensify heatwaves, floods, fires, sea-level rise and ecosystem loss. The report says overshoot could be temporary if governments rapidly phase out fossil fuels, cut emissions and remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. Experts caution that staying above 1.5°C would bring irreversible damage and no good outcomes.
