Glenwood Springs City Council Votes to Pursue Legal Action Against ICE Facility Landlord

Glenwood Springs City Council voted 6-1 to sue the private owner of the building where Immigration and Customs Enforcement runs a short-term detention facility, arguing ICE operations continued after the city revoked the site’s special-use permit. City attorney Karl Hanlon said suing the landlord in state court could be less risky than a direct legal fight with the federal government. The city claims detentions exceeded a 12-hour limit tied to the 2003 permit, and that notices were not addressed or appealed after permit revocation.
