Germany Wind Power Surge: Equipment Maker Secures Multi-Million Contract for Offshore Turbine Supply

Hamburg, Germany— A German renewable energy equipment manufacturer secured a major multi-million-dollar contract on October 24, 2026 to supply offshore wind turbines for new projects in the North Sea, locking in production through 2028.

The deal covers 60 turbines in the 15-megawatt class, with towers, nacelles and 115-meter blades to be built at the company's plants in Bremerhaven and Rostock. The contract value was listed at €240 million, according to a filing. Deliveries are set to begin in the second quarter of next year. Installation will be handled by a Danish marine contractor.

Company executives said the order came from a consortium of two North Sea developers building a 900-megawatt wind farm 40 kilometers off the German coast. The farm is expected to power about 700,000 homes. The manufacturer beat two other bidders, including a Spanish rival, after offering a shorter delivery window and local service guarantees.

"We won on lead time and on local content," the head of offshore sales said. "Customers want turbines that are built here and serviced here. We have steel in the yard and crews ready. That mattered more than price alone."

The contract arrives as Germany pushes to reach 30 gigawatts of offshore wind by 2030, up from about 8.5 today. Permitting remains slow, grid connections lag, and steel prices have risen 18 percent this year. Yet developers are moving forward, driven by auction rules that reward projects with European-made components.

Workers in Bremerhaven welcomed the news. The plant added 120 welders and electricians this year and will add another 80 under the new contract. A union representative said night shifts will return for the first time since 2021. "We had short-time work for two years. Now we talk about overtime again," the representative said.

The supply chain is tight. The company said it secured castings from foundries in Lower Saxony and bearings from a Swedish supplier through mid-2028. Port authorities in Cuxhaven said they are dredging a berth to handle the larger blades, which cannot move by road.

Analysts said the deal signals confidence after a rough 2024 when several offshore projects were canceled due to cost inflation. One energy analyst said the German government’s recent move to index auction prices to material costs helped restart orders. "This contract would not have happened a year ago. The math did not work," the analyst said.

Installation is scheduled for spring 2027, weather permitting, with commissioning by early 2028. The consortium said final investment decision was approved this week.
