Germany said Saturday it would maintain sanctions against Russia over its war in Ukraine, following President Donald Trump’s announcement that the United States had temporarily lifted restrictions on Russian fuel. Government spokesperson Stefan Kornelius said Berlin remains committed to existing sanctions and is working with European partners on additional measures. He added that Germany’s support for Ukraine remains unchanged and diplomatic efforts will continue. Trump said Russia had agreed to supply diesel to global markets to help lower fuel prices. Germany has not imported Russian oil or petroleum products since 2023.
