Germany Pledges €1.3B Defense Package During Merz Kyiv Visit

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced a support package worth more than €1.3 billion during Merz’s Kyiv visit. About €1 billion will fund air defense, long-range weapons, combat drones, and satellite communications, while €350 million will help repair Ukraine’s energy grid before winter. The governments also finalized 15 industrial and security agreements valued above €8.5 billion. Merz said Germany, France, and Britain would coordinate a winter meeting of the Coalition of the Willing in Berlin soon.
