Georgian Dream Seeks to Ban All Major Opposition Parties

Georgia’s ruling Georgian Dream party has announced plans to ask the Constitutional Court to ban five major opposition groups, including For Georgia, United National Movement, Ahali, Lelo, and the Federalists. The party says the groups threaten Georgia’s constitutional order, while opponents accuse it of consolidating authoritarian rule. If approved, the bans would eliminate all major opposition parties that cleared the electoral threshold in 2024. The move could intensify protests, deepen political polarisation, and further damage Georgia’s relationship with the EU.
