Funding Deadlock Derails Global Effort to Save Nature

Nearly 200 countries at the UN biodiversity summit in Yerevan agreed on an action plan to accelerate nature protection, but failed to resolve how to expand funding. Governments renewed the goal of protecting 30% of land and seas by 2030, while donor and non-donor nations remained divided over who should contribute. Pledges totaled $1.8 billion, yet the funding gap remains about $700 billion annually. Delegates also made progress on the voluntary Cali Fund, which had received $10,000 by the summit’s end.
