From Energy Fields to Silicon Halls, SB Energy Enters America’s Expanding AI Infrastructure Landscape

Across parts of the American landscape, the newest industrial structures are no longer defined only by smokestacks or warehouses. Increasingly, they are large, power-hungry buildings designed to process data. It is within this changing landscape that SB Energy is preparing to take another significant step.

The SoftBank-backed company filed for a U.S. initial public offering on September 1, seeking to enter public markets as demand for artificial intelligence infrastructure continues to grow. Reuters reported that the company could potentially pursue a valuation of more than $50 billion.

SB Energy's transformation is notable because the company has been moving away from its earlier identity as a renewable-energy provider and toward operating infrastructure for AI-focused data centers. The change reflects how the rapid expansion of artificial intelligence is reshaping demand for electricity, computing capacity, and large-scale facilities.

The company's financial figures illustrate both the opportunity and the scale of the challenge. Revenue increased 66.4% during the first half of 2026 to $138.7 million, according to Reuters. Yet the company also reported a net loss of approximately $3.21 billion during that period.

Behind those numbers is a substantial pipeline of projects. SB Energy reported a project backlog worth roughly $439 billion, although the company currently has no operational data centers. Its plans include a major facility in Ohio being developed for OpenAI, placing the company directly inside one of the fastest-growing segments of America's technology infrastructure.

The company's relationships with major technology and investment names add another layer to the story. Reuters reported that Nvidia and OpenAI have committed significant financial support through a private placement and warrants, while SoftBank remains an important customer and related party.

For the broader data-center industry, the timing is significant. AI systems require enormous amounts of computing power, and that computing power must be housed somewhere. The result has been a race to secure land, electricity, cooling systems, networking equipment, and long-term customer commitments.

At the same time, investors are becoming more attentive to the financial foundations of the AI infrastructure boom. Companies building data centers often require large amounts of capital before facilities begin generating revenue. That makes project backlogs, customer contracts, financing structures, and construction timelines important considerations alongside the excitement surrounding AI.

SB Energy's planned listing therefore arrives at the intersection of two powerful trends: the rapid expansion of artificial intelligence and the search for new infrastructure capable of supporting it. Its proposed public-market debut will provide investors with another opportunity to assess how much value they place on that future.

For now, SB Energy is moving toward the U.S. public markets with a rapidly growing revenue base, substantial project ambitions, and significant exposure to AI infrastructure demand. The IPO process will determine how investors ultimately value that combination.
