From Croatian Engineering to Austrian Industry, KONČAR Strengthens Its Path Across Europe’s Power Infrastructure

Industrial production depends on systems that are often invisible until they stop working. Behind a factory producing glass containers, machinery, furnaces and logistics networks, electricity moves continuously through infrastructure that must remain stable and reliable.

A new project in Austria is bringing Croatian electrical engineering expertise into that hidden layer of industrial operations. KONČAR-Helb, a unit of Croatian electrical engineering group KONČAR, has signed a contract with Vetropack Austria for the reconstruction and modernization of the power system at its manufacturing facility in Pöchlarn.

The project centers on the facility’s 110 kV substation and associated power infrastructure. According to KONČAR, the work includes reconstruction of the 110/20 kV system, modernization of medium-voltage installations and construction of new infrastructure.

The improvements are intended to increase supply security, expand available electrical capacity and improve the reliability of the facility’s power system. Those elements are particularly important for industrial plants where production processes depend on continuous and predictable electricity.

Vetropack Austria is part of the Swiss-based Vetropack Group, a major European producer of glass packaging for the food and beverage industry. The group operates production facilities and commercial operations across several European countries, including Austria, Switzerland, Croatia and Italy.

The agreement also illustrates how specialized engineering companies can participate in industrial modernization beyond their domestic markets. KONČAR has developed a broad portfolio covering electrical equipment, power systems, engineering and digital technologies, allowing its subsidiaries to work across different parts of the energy infrastructure chain.

For Vetropack, modernizing the electrical system is closely connected to the long-term operation of its manufacturing facility. Higher available capacity and improved reliability can provide greater flexibility as industrial production systems become increasingly automated and electricity-dependent.

The project also reflects a wider European need to modernize industrial infrastructure. Manufacturing facilities built around older electrical systems increasingly require upgrades as equipment becomes more powerful, automated and digitally connected.

KONČAR said the project would draw on solutions from across its group, demonstrating an integrated approach to complex power-engineering projects. The company described the contract as an expansion of its presence in the Austrian market.

From Croatia to Austria, the project connects two industrial stories through something that rarely appears in the finished product: the electrical infrastructure beneath the factory floor. As European manufacturing continues to modernize, those systems are becoming an increasingly important part of the industrial landscape.
