Beyond innovation itself, the government notes that AI research must consider broader societal and environmental implications. For example, training and operating advanced AI models can be resource intensive, demanding significant energy and water — concerns Singapore is acutely aware of given its dense data‑centre footprint and limited natural resources. Targeted research into resource‑efficient AI aims to ensure that progress does not come at undue environmental cost.
