French Women Face Growing Obstacles to Abortion Despite Constitutional Right

French women are facing growing barriers to abortion despite the procedure’s constitutional protection, according to a new survey. Three out of four women who obtained abortions in healthcare facilities reportedly waited more than seven days for appointments, compared with 54 percent in 2024. Shortages of trained professionals, rural inequalities, limited information, and restricted choice of methods are worsening access.
