French Students Urged to Join Yellow Vests and Unions for Saturday’s Mass Protest

French high-school student unions have called on pupils to join Saturday’s demonstrations with trade unions, the Yellow Vests and other groups. Organizers expect 70,000 to 140,000 people to protest across France, with around 1,000 actions planned by the Yellow Vests. Protesters are demanding changes to the government’s draft budget, arguing that more funding should come from billionaires and large corporations and support education. The mobilization follows student protests over school infrastructure, university admissions and class schedules. Authorities say some intermediate weapons may be authorized if serious violence occurs.
