France Urges Palestinian Authorities to Reverse Election Delay

France urged Palestinian authorities to reverse their decision to postpone legislative and presidential elections, calling for both votes to take place as soon as possible. President Mahmoud Abbas announced that the elections, originally scheduled for November, would instead be held on September 11, 2027. His office cited Israeli restrictions and the need for suitable political and security conditions. France said the delay denied Palestinians the opportunity to express themselves democratically at the ballot box, and stressed that democratic renewal is tied to preserving a two-state solution.
