French prosecutors have opened an attempted-murder investigation after a petrol bomb was thrown at security forces during protests in Paris. Video showed a homemade incendiary device exploding at an officer’s feet and setting his lower body alight. The officer suffered second-degree burns, according to prosecutors. Police said demonstrators also attacked officers with other projectiles, and explosive devices were thrown at around 15 gendarmes and police officers. More than 770 people were arrested nationwide during the demonstrations. Investigators are working to identify those responsible; no suspects had been arrested.
