Four Suspected Boko Haram Fighters Arrested in Major Yobe Security Operation

DAMATURU, Nigeria — In a major breakthrough against insurgency in the North-East, troops of the Joint Task Force (North East) Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) have arrested four suspected Boko Haram terrorists following a late-night tactical ambush in Yobe State.

The military operation unfolded around 11:00 p.m. east of Azare Village in the Gujba Local Government Area. Acting on intelligence regarding terrorist movements in the area, troops from the 27 Task Force Brigade—working in close coordination with the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF)—laid an ambush to intercept the insurgent group.

Upon making contact, military forces engaged the suspects in a fierce firefight, overwhelming the insurgents with superior firepower. While several militants fled into the darkness under heavy fire, ground troops successfully captured four suspected fighters during the subsequent sweep of the area.

In an official statement, Captain Mohammed Goni, Acting Military Information Officer for Operation Hadin Kai Headquarters, noted that blood traces at the scene indicated additional casualties among the fleeing insurgent elements.

Following the engagement, troops recovered a logistics cache left behind by the insurgents, including four bicycles, a vehicle, ammunition cases, a large quantity of groceries, and a sheep. The captured suspects and recovered evidence remain in military custody for further interrogation as field units continue exploitation operations in the surrounding terrain.

The ambush formed part of a broader, highly successful security clearance push in the region, during which 11 other insurgent fighters surrendered to military forces. Defense officials reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining relentless operational pressure across Yobe State to disrupt terrorist logistics networks and deny insurgent groups freedom of action.

Local community leaders welcomed the military's swift intervention, crediting the enhanced synergy between defense forces and local vigilante groups for the recent string of operational successes. They urged residents to remain vigilant and continue reporting suspicious movements, emphasizing that active public cooperation remains essential to permanently eradicating insurgent threats and restoring long-term stability across Yobe State.
