Forreston, Australia— A passenger was airlifted to hospital on Friday after a crash at Forreston in the Adelaide Hills, police said.
The incident happened on a winding road outside the small township. The vehicle left the road and came to rest in scrub. A rescue helicopter was called.
SA Police said the passenger suffered injuries described as non-life-threatening. The driver was assessed at the scene. Both were trapped for a short time before being freed.
“A passenger has been airlifted to hospital following a crash at Forreston,” a police spokesperson said. “Injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. The driver is assisting with inquiries.”
Crews from Country Fire Service and SA Ambulance attended. Paramedics stabilized the passenger before the helicopter landed in a nearby paddock. The airlift took about 20 minutes.
The road through Forreston was shut while investigators examined the scene. The car had significant front-end damage. Officers took photos and checked for brake marks.
Local residents said the stretch is prone to crashes, especially after rain. The road narrows quickly and has steep drop-offs. Heavy vehicles use it to cut through to the Barossa.
Police have not said what caused the crash. They are looking at speed, road surface, and driver distraction. No charges have been laid yet.
The passenger remains in Royal Adelaide Hospital under observation. Police said the investigation will continue into the weekend.
