Orazio Petito has been dropped from a civil lawsuit filed by a former Cornell student known as Jane Doe, after he was mistakenly identified as president of the Chi Phi chapter at the time of the alleged 2024 assault. The court filing ends the claims against him “with prejudice,” meaning they cannot be brought again. Petito was not accused of participating in the alleged assault. The lawsuit’s claims against Cornell, affiliated organizations and other named defendants remain ongoing. No criminal charges have been filed.
