Floods Reach Waist-High Level in Cavite Neighborhood as Heavy Rains Lash Imus

IMUS, Cavite — Torrential rains brought by relentless downpours inundated low-lying communities across Imus on Saturday, August 8, 2026 leaving several residential areas submerged and forcing residents in Barangay Medicion II-F to wade through waist-deep floodwaters.

The heavy rain, exacerbated by localized thunderstorms and high tide along nearby waterways, caused water levels in low-lying subdivisions and main roads to surge rapidly within hours. Emergency responders from the Imus City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) were deployed to assist affected households and monitor critical river channels across the city.

In Medicion II-F, one of the most flood-prone barangays in Imus, residents scrambled to move furniture, appliances, and livestock to higher floors as murky waters overflowed from nearby canals and drainage paths.

"The water rose so fast," said one local resident. "Within an hour of continuous heavy rain, the street outside was already impassable to light vehicles, and water started seeping into ground-floor living rooms."

Local barangay officials advised residents in vulnerable structures to prepare for possible evacuation if rainfall continues into the evening. Safety teams have also issued warnings regarding submerged electrical wiring and the risk of waterborne diseases like leptospirosis.

Mayor Alex Advincula confirmed that disaster response units, including rescue boats and amphibious vehicles, remain on standby across priority barangays. Local authorities are actively distributing emergency relief packs to families trapped in their homes by the rising waters.

City engineers attribute the frequent and rapid flooding in areas like Medicion II-F to a combination of heavy upland runoff flowing toward the city's west side, high tide backflow, and clogged regional drainage outlets.

To address the recurring issue, local leaders announced plans to fast-track long-term infrastructure upgrades, including pumping station repairs and desilting operations along main waterways.

As meteorologists predict continued rain showers and thunderstorms across Cavite and the CALABARZON region over the weekend, local government officials urge all residents in low-lying areas to stay vigilant, monitor official city announcements, and obey emergency evacuation orders if issued.
