First Phase of Canadian Army Restructuring Creates Division Focused on Defending Canada

Canada’s Army has begun a restructuring that replaces geographically organized divisions with formations built around specific missions. The first phase establishes the 2nd Canadian Division, based in Montreal and focused on defending Canada, responding to domestic emergencies and supporting territorial defence. It will be composed largely of reservists and will command Canada’s reserve brigades and Canadian Rangers. The overhaul also creates a manoeuvre division for large-scale combat and a support division for administrative and institutional functions, modernizing the Army.
