DENİZLİ, Turkey — A horrific highway disaster sent shockwaves through western Turkey early on Sunday morning, May 31, 2026, when an intercity passenger bus careened into concrete road barriers, flipped over, and burst into a violent fireball. The inferno killed eight people—including a nine-month-old baby—and left 33 others injured, several of them with severe burns.

The early-morning tragedy on the Denizli–Aydın Highway has prompted an immediate, sweeping investigation into driver fatigue and commercial transit safety protocols.

The catastrophic incident occurred at approximately 4:45 AM near the Sarayköy district of Denizli province. The passenger bus, operated by a prominent long-distance travel company, was en route carrying dozens of sleeping passengers when the vehicle suddenly veered wildly off course.

According to preliminary highway police reports, the bus struck the concrete central median barriers at high speed. The impact caused the heavy vehicle to overturn onto its side, sliding across the tarmac before its fuel tanks ruptured, instantly igniting a massive blaze that engulfed the entire cabin within seconds.
