Fiery Flat, Australia— A teenager died on Friday after a vehicle left the road and slammed into a tree in Fiery Flat, in regional Victoria, police said.
The crash happened in the afternoon on a quiet rural stretch. The car was travelling alone when it left the carriageway. Emergency crews found the vehicle wrapped around a tree.
Victoria Police confirmed the driver, a teenager, died at the scene. Paramedics attempted resuscitation but the injuries were too severe. No other vehicles were involved.
“We are investigating a fatal single-vehicle collision in Fiery Flat,” a police spokesperson said. “The driver, a teenager, has died after the car collided with a tree.”
The road was closed for several hours while major collision investigators worked. Officers mapped tyre marks and debris. The car was removed by a heavy tow truck.
Locals said the road is narrow and lined with large gum trees close to the edge. Speed and wet conditions have been raised before as risks. There is no street lighting on that section.
Police have appealed for dashcam footage from anyone who was in the area before the crash. They want to know what direction the car was travelling and whether any other traffic was nearby.
The identity of the teenager has not been released pending notification of family. A report will be prepared for the coroner.
Investigators said the exact cause remains unclear. The road has reopened but inquiries continue.
