Shawangunk, New York—State Police are investigating a fatal single-vehicle crash that occurred Wednesday on Albany Post Road. The driver, whose identity has not yet been released, died after the car veered off the pavement. The vehicle struck a tree near the intersection of the roadway, causing extensive damage to the front end of the sedan.

Patrol officers arrived at the scene around 8:00 a.m. to find the car facing the wrong direction on the shoulder. The force of the impact had crumpled the driver-side door, trapping the victim inside. Paramedics declared the driver dead shortly after arriving.
