Chicago, United States— A nightclub brawl ended in a fatal stabbing early Wednesday, leaving one man dead on the sidewalk and forcing police to arrest multiple people as the crowd scattered.
City police said the fight broke out inside the club around 1:40 a.m. near the bar area. Security tried to separate two groups. The argument spilled outside. Witnesses said bottles were thrown. A knife was then seen.
The victim, a 26-year-old man, was stabbed twice in the chest. He collapsed near the entrance. Paramedics performed CPR for 18 minutes. He was pronounced dead at 2:05 a.m. His name has not been released pending family notification.
Four people were detained. Two were found inside the club with blood on their clothing. One was stopped two blocks away attempting to discard a knife in a dumpster. Police said the weapon was recovered and is being tested.
Sgt. Daniel Lopez said the club had been flagged for overcrowding and prior assaults. He said officers had responded to three calls at the same venue this month. He said the interior cameras were working and footage has been seized.
The crowd was estimated at over 200 people. Several patrons recorded the fight on phones. Those videos are now with detectives. One clip shows security guards pulling men apart seconds before the stabbing. Police asked owners of the footage to submit it directly.
The club was shut down for the night and cordoned until 6 a.m. Investigators marked blood evidence on the pavement, collected broken glass, and interviewed staff. The owner said he hired six guards for the night. He said the victim was not a regular.
Police said the suspects range in age from 22 to 31 and are known to each other. Charges expected include murder, aggravated assault, and affray. A bail hearing is set for Thursday at Cook County Court.
The area outside the club remained closed during morning rush hour. Residents gathered behind tape. The investigation is active. Police said more arrests are possible as they review additional angles.
