Fatal Highway Crash: Nigerian Customs Officer Dies in Lone Car Accident in Cross River

CALABAR, Nigeria — A Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) officer has lost his life following a tragic single-vehicle accident along the busy Ikom-Calabar Highway in Cross River State. The violent crash occurred during the early hours of Tuesday morning, September 8, 2026 leaving motorists and emergency responders stunned by the severity of the wreckage.

The vehicle, driven by the officer, was reportedly traveling at speed along a smooth stretch of the highway when the driver lost control. The car veered off the road, flipped multiple times, and crashed into the dense roadside brush before coming to a halt.

Passersby and commercial drivers pulled over immediately to assist, but the officer had already succumbed to fatal injuries sustained during the high-impact rollover. No other vehicles were involved in the accident.

Personnel from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the Nigeria Police Force arrived shortly after being alerted by witnesses. Emergency teams secured the area, redirected traffic to prevent secondary collisions, and carefully extracted the officer's body from the heavily damaged vehicle.

The officer’s remains were transported to a nearby mortuary, while Customs officials were formally notified of the tragedy.

"It was a horrific sight," said a commercial bus driver who arrived shortly after the incident. "The car was completely wrecked off the side of the road. Everyone tried to see if he could be saved, but the impact was just too severe."
