Fatal Collision in Qalyubiya: Three Children Dead, Two Women Rushed to Hospital After Road Disaster

QALYUBIYA, EGYPT — A wave of grief has swept through the Qalyubiya Governorate following a catastrophic road accident that claimed the lives of three children and left two women with severe injuries. The incident occurred earlier on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, adding to a growing list of tragic traffic mishaps in the region.

The collision took place on a busy transport artery within Qalyubiya, involving a passenger vehicle and a heavy transport truck. Eyewitnesses reported that the smaller vehicle was crushed during the impact, becoming trapped beneath the larger truck before emergency services could arrive.

Tragically, three children traveling in the passenger vehicle died instantly from the force of the collision. Two women were eventually extracted from the wreckage by civil defense teams and rushed to a nearby hospital, where they are currently receiving intensive medical care for life-threatening injuries.

Local authorities and medical teams arrived on the scene within minutes of the distress call. According to the Qalyubiya Health Department, the two surviving women remain in unstable condition, suffering from multiple fractures and internal hemorrhaging.

To clear the roadway for commuters, cranes were brought in to remove the mangled wreckage, causing traffic to stall for several hours. Meanwhile, the Public Prosecutor’s Office has launched an investigation to determine if high speed, driver fatigue, or a mechanical failure in the truck’s breaking system contributed to the disaster.

The news of the children's deaths has devastated the local community. Families gathered at the hospital and the morgue, awaiting news and mourning the loss of young lives cut short.

"It was a scene no one should ever have to witness," said one first responder. "The loss of children is a weight that the entire governorate feels tonight. Our hearts go out to the mothers fighting for their lives." The accident has reignited a heated debate regarding road safety standards in Qalyubiya and the regulation of heavy-duty vehicles on public roads. In response, officials have vowed to increase patrols and strictly enforce speed limits for transport trucks navigating through residential and high-traffic areas.

Additionally, there are growing calls for an infrastructure review—including better lighting and clearer signage—on the stretch of road where the crash occurred, which local residents have long described as a "notorious danger zone."

As investigators continue their work, the names of the victims are being withheld until all immediate family members have been formally notified.
