Extrajudicial Mob Assault Target Expatriate Wife: Woman Brutally Beaten and Shaved in Faridpur District

Faridpur, Bangladesh—Law enforcement officials opened an investigation into a violent vigilante assault in Faridpur Sadar upazila on October 12, 2026, after video evidence surfaced showing an expatriate’s wife being physically beaten and having her hair forcibly cut.

The incident unfolded over a 24-hour period following unsanctioned accusations regarding an extramarital relationship inside a local household. Video footage recorded by bystanders began circulating across public social media networks late Sunday night, prompting immediate police intervention.

The recorded material depicts a 28-year-old female victim tied and seated in a chair while two men physically restrain her and cut her hair unevenly using scissors. A secondary video clip shows the same woman alongside a male acquaintance bound to a tree with ropes during nighttime hours while individuals strike them.

Local residents identified the key suspects featured in the video clips as nephews of the victim's husband. The victim had returned to her husband's family home from her parents' residence shortly before relatives confronted her inside the property.

Relatives and local men detained both the woman and a male visitor overnight without involving formal law enforcement agencies. The two individuals remained confined within the residential compound throughout the following day before perpetrators forcibly shaved the woman's head and sent her away.

Local police supervisors condemned the illegal detention and vigilantism carried out by the village residents. The local Officer-in-Charge addressed the illegality of the informal mob action directly. "If someone commits a crime, there is a law to deal with it," the officer stated. "Taking the law into one's own hands is never acceptable. This was certainly an unlawful act."

Police teams dispatched investigative units to the village to collect digital evidence and interview eyewitnesses present during the incident. Authorities confirmed the male victim was released by the group prior to police arrival.

Law enforcement personnel are actively attempting to trace the primary suspects shown executing the physical assault in the video footage. Legal filings under domestic violence and assault statutes are currently being prepared by regional prosecutors.
