Explosion Rocks Taguig: Panic Erupts in AFPOVAI Subdivision During Saturday Fire Evacuation

TAGUIG CITY, PHILIPPINES — Over a hundred families were forced to flee for their lives on Saturday, June 13, 2026 when a massive fire tore through Phase 4 of the AFPOVAI Subdivision in Barangay Western Bicutan. The chaos peaked when a loud explosion sent waves of panic through residents trying to escape.

The blaze broke out in the densely populated residential enclave, quickly escalating as strong winds pushed the flames through neighboring structures.

As emergency sirens pierced the air, community members rushed to evacuate their belongings and guide children and elderly relatives to safety. It was during this tense evacuation that a sudden, deafening explosion rocked the area, causing immediate panic among fleeing residents who scrambled for cover.

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) responded, dispatching multiple fire trucks to the scene to prevent the fast-moving fire from leaping deeper into adjacent phases of the subdivision. Thick columns of black smoke could be seen rising over the Taguig skyline as responders combated the inferno.

"Many families lost their homes and everything they owned to the flames," local authorities reported. "Fortunately, despite the scale of the destruction and the panic caused by the blast, no casualties or major injuries have been reported."

More than 100 families were displaced by the incident. The Taguig City local government unit immediately mobilized social workers to establish an evacuation center, distributing hot meals, hygiene kits, and emergency bedding to the affected residents.

The BFP has launched a thorough investigation to identify the exact origin of the blaze. Arson investigators are also looking into the cause of the explosion, which witnesses suspect may have been triggered by pressurized liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) tanks caught in the intense heat.
