Europe’s Largest Asset Manager Signals the Future: Tokenization Moves From Theory to Strategy

Tokenization of real-world assets (RWAs) has officially crossed into institutional priority. Europe’s largest asset manager, Amundi, with over €2 trillion in assets under management, has published a comprehensive 158-page report dedicated entirely to RWA tokenization. This is not a marketing document — it is a strategic blueprint. When an institution of Amundi’s size commits resources to a report of this depth, it signals that tokenization is no longer an experiment. It is being evaluated as core financial infrastructure. The report maps how traditional assets such as bonds, funds, and treasuries can be issued, managed, and settled on blockchain networks while maintaining regulatory compliance. Notably, Amundi references key pioneers already building this future. Platforms such as Securitize, Ondo Finance, OpenTrade, Centrifuge, and Spiko Finance are highlighted for their work in compliant asset issuance and yield-bearing tokenized products. On the infrastructure side, major networks like Ethereum, Canton Network, Polygon, and Solana are acknowledged as foundational layers supporting institutional-grade tokenization. The inclusion of the Canton Network is especially telling. Designed specifically for regulated finance, Canton bridges privacy, compliance, and interoperability — features essential for asset managers operating across jurisdictions. This aligns with Amundi’s focus on maintaining investor protections while unlocking efficiency gains. The report emphasizes several clear benefits of tokenization: faster settlement, reduced operational costs, improved transparency, fractional ownership, and expanded global access. Importantly, it does not frame tokenization as replacing traditional finance, but as upgrading existing market structures. By naming real platforms and live networks, Amundi confirms that tokenization has moved beyond whitepapers into production environments. The institutional ecosystem is forming now, with asset managers, custodians, and blockchain networks converging. In simple terms, this report validates what the market has anticipated: RWAs are becoming the bridge between trillions in traditional capital and on-chain finance. When Europe’s largest asset manager documents the path forward, the direction is no longer speculative it is strategic.
