EU finds TikTok violates its digital rule book by failing to protect privacy of minors

The European Commission said it found TikTok breached EU digital rules meant to protect children’s privacy. The regulator said the platform allowed adults to view the accounts of minors, exposing them to risks including cyberbullying, unwanted contact, and predatory behavior. The Commission said children aged 13 to 15 can “easily” change accounts from private to public, and private accounts for some older minors can be seen by anyone online. TikTok said it will review the findings and respond.
