EU Calls U.S. Sanctions on International Criminal Court “Deeply Regrettable”

The European Union on Friday called U.S. sanctions against the International Criminal Court “deeply regrettable” and pledged to work with the court to ensure it continues operating effectively. The European Commission said a six-month delay before the measures take effect leaves room for dialogue. European Council President António Costa stressed that lasting peace requires accountability, while Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten said the Netherlands would do what is needed to defend the court.
