Emergency Landing: 2-Seater Training Aircraft Crashes in Baramati Field

BARAMATI, MAHARASHTRA — Aviation authorities have launched an investigation after a two-seater training aircraft performed an emergency landing in an agricultural field in Baramati earlier on Wednesday, May 13, 2026. The incident, which occurred during a routine training sortie, has raised questions regarding technical maintenance protocols for private flight schools operating in the region.

The aircraft, a light trainer used by a local aviation academy, reportedly experienced a sudden loss of power while over the Baramati sector. The pilot, demonstrating quick thinking, attempted to guide the plane toward an open field to avoid residential structures.

The incident involved a 2-seater light training aircraft that went down in an agricultural field on the outskirts of Baramati. Both the instructor and the trainee pilot successfully exited the plane without sustaining any major injuries. However, the aircraft suffered significant damage to its undercarriage and propeller assembly due to the impact with the uneven terrain.

Local farmers were the first to reach the crash site, assisting the two occupants before emergency teams arrived. Police and fire officials quickly cordoned off the area to prevent any potential fuel ignition and to preserve the site for aviation investigators.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has been notified of the event. A team of investigators is expected to arrive at the site to examine the wreckage and retrieve flight logs to determine the exact cause of the engine failure.

The ongoing inquiry is centered on three primary areas to determine the cause of the power loss. Investigators are meticulously examining the aircraft's fuel system and engine components for any signs of mechanical failure or malfunction. Simultaneously, a thorough review of maintenance records is underway to verify that all recent service history and safety checks were fully up to date.

Finally, the probe is assessing environmental factors, such as prevailing weather conditions or the possibility of a bird strike, to see if they contributed to the sudden emergency.

Baramati has grown into a significant hub for pilot training, with several academies operating daily flights. This latest incident has prompted calls for a review of safety standards and emergency landing zones to ensure the safety of both the student pilots and the residents living beneath the flight paths. The aviation academy involved has grounded its remaining fleet pending a preliminary internal safety review.
