Egypt Approves Military Support for Saudi Arabia as Houthi Attacks Escalate

Egypt’s parliament voted Monday to authorize President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi to provide military support to Saudi Arabia against Houthi attacks, the Associated Press reported. The vote followed a request from el-Sissi, who said Riyadh could seek help defending its territory. An official told the AP that support could include air defense systems and aircraft to intercept missiles and drones. The official said Egypt would not send ground troops into Yemen. Parliament did not disclose the vote’s breakdown or the mission’s duration.
