Eastern Libya’s parliament approved a maritime deal with Turkey on Tuesday, drawing condemnation from Greece, which called it illegal. The agreement, originally signed in 2019, concerns competing sea claims and energy exploration rights in the eastern Mediterranean. Lawmakers also reversed a 2020 decision to cut political ties with Ankara and approved ratification of the deal. Turkey welcomed the move, while Greece said it violated international law and infringed on states’ sovereign rights. The vote signals warmer ties between Ankara and eastern Libya after years.
