DTCC Joins Canton Network as Super Validator: A Major Step Toward On-Chain U.S. Capital Markets

The financial infrastructure of the United States is quietly moving on-chain. In a landmark development, the Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation (DTCC) has been approved as a Super Validator on the Canton Network, signaling a decisive shift toward regulated blockchain adoption at institutional scale. DTCC is one of the most critical entities in global finance, responsible for clearing, settling, and safeguarding trillions of dollars in securities. Its participation on the Canton Network is not experimental hype — it is structural progress. Through the approval of CIP-0083, DTCC now plays a direct governance role alongside other Super Validator Node operators. As a Super Validator and governance co-chair, DTCC will help bring real U.S. capital markets activity on-chain in a controlled, compliant production MVP. One of the first use cases involves enabling a subset of DTCC-custodied U.S. Treasury securities to be minted on the Canton Network. These are not synthetic assets, but institutionally held instruments with real settlement backing. The initiative also allows DTCC participants to convert supported assets between traditional book-entry form and tokenized form, while retaining the same CUSIP, investor protections, and ownership rights. This removes one of the biggest barriers to institutional tokenization: legal and operational continuity. Canton Network’s design plays a critical role in this transition. Built for regulated finance, it offers privacy, interoperability, and embedded compliance — features required by banks, clearinghouses, and regulators. By bridging TradFi and DeFi, Canton enables assets to move across blockchains without sacrificing governance or regulatory oversight. This collaboration also highlights the growing importance of multi-blockchain connectivity. Rather than forcing institutions into isolated systems, Canton provides a shared, interoperable framework that supports global scale adoption. DTCC’s move confirms what many in digital finance have anticipated: tokenization is no longer theoretical. It is entering live capital markets with the institutions that already manage global liquidity. The future of finance is not replacing TradFi it is upgrading it.
