Drone, artillery attacks kill civilians on both sides of Russia-Ukraine border

On Saturday, local officials reported that drone and artillery attacks killed civilians on both sides of the Russia-Ukraine border.

In Russia’s Bryansk border region, acting Governor Yegor Kovalchuk said a Ukrainian drone strike killed two people in their car in a village near the border. Russia’s Defence Ministry, as cited by Russian news agencies, said it shot down 124 Ukrainian drones across Russian regions during a period from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. (0500-1700 GMT), while Moscow officials also issued statements about drones reportedly heading toward the capital. An informal tally by Russian news agencies put the number of intercepted drones near Moscow at 21 during the day.

On the Ukrainian side, the governor of Dnipropetrovsk Region, Oleksandr Ganzha, said that a combined total of more than 40 drone strikes and artillery fire killed one person and injured one near Nikopol. Nikopol lies on the opposite bank of the Dnipro River from the Russian-held Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant and is described as a frequent target.

The reports highlight how cross-border drone and artillery exchanges continue to affect civilians in border areas.
