TWEED HEADS, NSW — A quiet coastal neighborhood has been left shaken after an alleged domestic violence assault escalated to a murder charge, following the death of a 34-year-old man who was abandoned on a residential driveway in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Emergency services were called to a home on Seaview Crescent in Tweed Heads at approximately 2:00 AM on Saturday, June 6, 2026, following multiple urgent Triple-0 calls from distressed neighbors.
Local resident Sapodia Lindley reported being awoken by the chaos. "I woke up to yelling and screaming coming from the street, which continued for about 20 minutes," she said. "It sounded like a fight... It's a little bit surreal, it's usually a quiet street."
According to NSW Police, the incident began earlier that night at a property on The Hermitage in Tweed Heads South. Detectives allege that a violent altercation broke out between the 34-year-old victim and a 31-year-old man who was well known to him.
During the confrontation, the victim sustained what police described as "very serious injuries." Forensic investigators later combed the scene and recovered a large metal pole, which was bagged and taken away as a key piece of evidence.
Following the assault, police allege a disturbing sequence of events unfolded. A 29-year-old woman who knew the victim allegedly loaded the severely injured man into a vehicle, but instead of taking him to a hospital, she drove him to a Seaview Crescent property and abandoned him bleeding on the driveway.
Paramedics arrived at the scene shortly after 2:00 AM, but despite desperate attempts to revive the man, his injuries proved fatal, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Detectives from the Tweed/Byron Police District moved swiftly, arresting both the 31-year-old man and the 29-year-old woman at The Hermitage shortly after the body was discovered.
"It's a serious matter and someone has lost their life. We will be looking at all lines of inquiry," Detective Senior Constable Gary Sheehan told reporters on Saturday morning, confirming that all three individuals involved were known to one another.
The 31-year-old man has been officially refused bail and is scheduled to appear before the Bail Division Local Court tomorrow, Sunday, June 7, 2026, facing a charge of murder (domestic violence). Meanwhile, the 29-year-old woman has been charged with hindering the discovery of evidence regarding a serious indictable offence.
Police will explicitly allege in court that she actively supplied false information and deceptive accounts of the assault to officers to shield the attacker; she was granted conditional bail to appear before Tweed Heads Local Court on Monday, June 29, 2026.
Crime scenes remain established at both locations as forensic teams continue to piece together the final moments leading up to the tragedy.
