Marie-Celestin Karondwa, a senior member of the Democratic Republic of Congo’s ruling party, was beaten to death in Butembo after appearing on radio to promote Ebola prevention. His party said attackers assaulted him, looted his belongings, and set his house on fire. The killing comes as suspicion and conspiracy theories complicate country’s Ebola response, which has recorded thousands of infections and deaths. Authorities have not identified the perpetrators or established motive, while attacks on health workers and sites continue.
