The Federal Trade Commission and 20 states have sued Dollar General, alleging the retailer routinely charged customers more at checkout than prices displayed on shelves, tags and advertisements. The complaint, filed in federal court in Tennessee, says the company knew about the pricing discrepancies but failed to adequately address them. The FTC says the alleged practices cost consumers millions of dollars. Dollar General, headquartered in Goodlettsville, Tennessee, did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The lawsuit remains pending, and the allegations have not been proven in court.
